Brief (around 300 words) personality outline of your character:

On her good days, Sumeragi is calm, confident, and outgoing. If there were a ‘mother’ to the family that is the crew of the Ptolemaios, it would be Sumeragi - she treats all of the crew as more than just co-workers, and isn’t afraid to smack some sense (occasionally literally) into people who are acting irrationally. She’s the ship’s commander, and it’s clear, particularly in combat situations, where she keeps her head even as things get rough.

Her alcoholism and past means that not all days are good days, though. Sometimes her drunkenness spills over into exuberance and bad ideas (though thankfully, never during combat). More often, though, she drinks to try and wall off her memories of the past. She still feels intensely guilty for giving mission plans that lead to the death of her lover, Emilio, and in the aftermath of the first season of G00, this is compounded by guilt for the deaths of Neil Dylandy, Christina Sierra, and Lichty Tsery. She even goes so far as to quit Celestial Being entirely, because the weight of that guilt is too much, and, as far as we see, spends most of her time in a drunken, self-loathing stupor. This is a side of herself that she keeps hidden from the rest of the crew of the Ptolemy, though - which means in part that she’s very good at showing others the face she wants them to see. We also see this come into play when she encounters Billy, early in S1 - he has absolutely no suspicions that she heads the unit Billy has been tasked with destroying.

Her real self, then, is a mix of the two - she does genuinely appear to like being around other people, and the weight with which she takes their deaths speaks of someone who opens her heart a great deal to those around her. At the same time, though, the broken woman we see when she’s in her cups is also a true facet of herself - the part that can’t quite face up to her past, and is always running.

Are there any specific issues you would like to address during the session?: Sumeragi is an alcoholic, largely as a coping mechanism for depression and guilt issues. Many of these revolve around the death of her lover, Emilio, and the later deaths of Neil Dylandy, Lichty Tsery, Christina Sierra, and Joyce Moreno.

What, if anything, do you hope your character gets out of therapy?: Recognizing that the guilt issues exist and that while guilt is a normal feeling in such situations, she's not handling it well and it's impairing her ability to live her life.

Is there anything else you'd like to add?: Sumeragi would be very resistant to therapy - she keeps her past close to her heart, in part because one of the way she copes is avoidance/repression. She also knows that the amount she drinks is problematic and would likely try to hide the full extent of it.
